IGNs Dead Cells Review being investigated over possible plagiarism

Apparently the guy who did IGNs review is a new employee still no excuse.

What are the odds that IGN will double-down and defend the guy? Also how likely is it that gaming journalists and other miscellaneous blue check marks on Twitter will brush off any criticism as "harassment from Gamergate nazis and/or MAGA bigots"?

Pretty damn low chances. Like a lot of publications they rely on the integrity of the writing staff, or (un)paid contributors. For the most part any journalist or reviewer with any sense of integrity will take this sort of thing very seriously, like it or not the vast majority are honest and upfront. Painting an entire group by the actions of a few is unfair.
Maybe wait to see what IGN does before getting too worked up. Nice overreaction though!!

This sort of shit makes everyone look bad, and IGN needs to be very clear about what they're going to do about it. Starting with removing this guy from the payroll.

The review seems to be missing from the site. http://au.ign.com/games/dead-cells

BY IGN STAFF Editor's Note: As a group of writers and creators who value our own work and that of others in our field, the editorial staff of IGN takes plagiarism very seriously. In light of concerns that have been raised about our Dead Cells review, we’ve removed it for the time being and are investigating.

One of Filip's last tweets "Finishing up my Dead Cells review this weekend. It’s the first IGN video review I’ve edited myself, and I can’t wait to share it with you all." TOP EDITING MAN

Excellent game, really enjoying it on Switch. Pretty hefty at $42.50 NZD but still one of my favorite rogue-lites yet.

His Fifa 18 review had some fairly similar wording too

Certianly starting to sound like this guy had a reputation around the industry before IGN hired him, seems like IGN deserves to get at least some of the blame for not doing their due diligence https://twitter.com/AAMARMO/status/1026979179047395329

I played this in early access and it was brilliant, the gameplay loop is very satisfying.

    (I didn't plagiarise this review, I swear).

Game is amazing, hopefully this gives the game more coverage too.

If Castlevania SotN and Super Metroid had a baby, you'd get Dead Cells. So stoked I preordered it on Switch for the lovely price of $32nzd.

    /not a plagiarised review

I think the price is a little steep for a game in a genre with already a buttload of good titles

The game JUST came out in v1.0 state. Did you buy Rogue Legacy when it was an absolute new release?

It's $24 on Steam on special ATM, normal price $30. F*ck, the "Nintendo tax" is some pure bullshit.

I didn't realise that. I've had my eye on the game for a while, didn't realise it was during the early access phase. I still think 17 is steep for a Metroidvania, but I'm currently on minimum wage so maybe my view is skewed

ROFL, the guy has plagiarised other reviews in the past. He stole Nintendolife's FIFA 18 review.

Dunno why the guy doing the video has a hard time believing that it's common for reviewers to look at other reviews before posting theirs.
