    Ghost of Tsushima

    PS4 exclusive

"Sucker Punch is best known for the inFamous series, but Ghost of Tsushima is something entirely apart from those superpowered adventures. In quite a change for the studio, it's moving away from the neon and cities of the InFamous series in favor of an open-world game set in the history of Feudal Japan - specifically the year 1274, during the Mongol invasion on the titular island of Tsushima."

P.S. I am completely and utterly moist from watching that game play. This could be the best thing ever.

This looks really good, like...next level good.

Never played the InFamous series, but these guys seem to know what they're doing bigtime!

I've always wanted a next gen Tenchu but this looks like it will scratch the itch! The graphics look so smooth. I hope that framerate carries over to the final product.

Great interview, lots of good stuff, authentic photo realism captured from the actual Tsushima island, procedural weather, clouds, sun etc. Moving leaves, flowers etc. counted in millions. Character progression through the story, begin as pure samurai, evolve into a killing machine. They said the combat started off with 1 shot kills realistic samurai sword fight, but then dialed down to make it viable for the game.

Mo cap at the end (38.30):

It’s feels generic but at the same time innovative and the graphics are obviously err ma gawd level
I like the fighting game camera angle with 1v1 fights

Its being a tricky E3 in general - some games have no release dates and look amazing and you have to wonder if those trailers were taken from a PC and intended for launch on the next gen consoles in 2020

That bit at the start when he cuts down the first guy instantly was pretty awesome but I'm wondering if thats actual gameplay or just scripted. And the sentry blowing the horn, can you kill him first and stop that happening?

It's like TLoU2, it looks amazing but surely the fights are scripted.

Interesting video by digital foundry with a conclusion

This game is either for next gen or it’s going to get a graphics downgraded

The major issue is the cpu- the game was shown with lots of cpu calculation heavy effects and environments and no one believes the ps4 can run the game looking like that

I'm hopeful it can be run on a PS4, simply because it takes a long time for devs to master each gen's technology. PS3 had TLOU and GTA5 near the end of it's life cycle.

"Game development also focused on ensuring that both the onscreen text and Japanese voice-overs were accurate for the time period. "All our actors are native Japanese speakers but we actually have to have a dialogue coach on stage to help them speak ancient Japanese correctly," Zimmerman said, "to not have modernisms creep in."

This attention to detail carries over to the game's combat system as well. "You wouldn't believe how much effort we put into the details of the katana," Zimmerman said. For example, the team apparently spent an inordinate amount of time designing each katana's hand guard (or, tsuba).

"Jin's sword... is the family sword and it's called the Sakai Storm," Zimmerman continued. "And so the tsuba has kind of iconography of storm, lightning bolts and stuff on it. We call it weapon porn.""

Follow release date on PSN page, 4k screenshots available.

"The information comes from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida who confirmed that the option to play the game with Japanese dialogue will be available in the final game.

dunno either way but I was wondering if it is if it was inspired by Onimusha 2's Issen system.

It was basically a quick counter kill system which allowed you to kill any enemy in a single hit if you timed your defence or strike correctly.
