Never played a Shenmue game before. Is it similar to the Yakuza games?

I had this on Dreamcast and feel that though it was fascinating and technically accomplished in its day, if played now it will not be found to have held up well. Though it was charming at times on account of its 80's Japan setting, it was also capable of stupendous boringness. The real-time combat was dreadful, and the game was full of life-or-death QTEs, which is what designers add to their games when they simply don't give a shit any more. And we haven't even gotten to the mandatory 'driving the forklift for hours and hours' section. Voice-over work was ultra-corn, and localisation "sub-optimal", hence you spend lots of time asking people in bars where you can find some sailors. A curiosity more than an essential.
